Founded by inventor Charles G. Ette, American Foundry and Manufacturing Company was formerly known as Ette & Henger Manufacturing Company. In 1808, the company became Plueger & Henger Manufacturing Company, and was renamed again in 1909 to the current name.

The company originally manufactured fire hydrants and valves, but they also produced roof drains and other fittings. While the company no longer produces roofing products, they sell J.R. Smith floor, roof and trench drains.

Mr. Ette held U.S. patent #394,478 for the Empire/National hydrant. This is the only known model of fire hydrant made by Plueger & Henger Manufacturing Company between 1888 and 1909.
